100 best books for Kids

Here is a list of the best books for kids. I have not read them all, but some of our favorites are here.

Here’s a few:

• Where the Sidewalk Ends: the Poems and Drawing of Shel Silverstein by Shel Silverstein
• The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
• Love You Forever by Robert N. Munsch
• Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder (the whole series)

I didn’t see it on here, but one of my favorite series as a child was Hardy Boys by Franklin W. Dixon.

Real World Science & Math Videos

This is a great site where students can watch short videos about how science and math are used in real careers. Anything from building Mars rovers to raising ferrets. These can be purchased on DVD or watched online.

Educational Video Rental

You have heard of NetFlix, well here’s SmartFlix. SmartFlix rents educational DVDs on every subject from “The History of the English Language” to “Visual Guide to Lock Picking” (you never know when you’ll lock yourself out of your house).

The service works a lot like NetFlix, except you pay per DVD (around $9.99) and you can only keep it for a week.

Steve Spangler Rocks!

I’ve got to say this has to be one of the best fun science websites I have seen – Steve Spangler Science. I will be getting myself…er the kids one of those Mentos Geyser thingies. Many cool experiments and videos here too.

Virtual Manipulatives

If you like manipulatives, the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives is a great site to use. It contains manipulatives from simple base blocks all the way up to High School Algebra and Geometry. Check it out for yourself.

Look no more….Great Images in NASA (GRIN) is a wonderful site full of high-resolution images from a myriad of NASA related sites and projects.
